A Clinical and Mycological Studies of Superficial Fungal Diseases(¥µ)

Abstract
Authors performed a clinical and mycological studies of superficial fungal diseases of 1890 outpatients who had visited the Department of Dermatology, University Hospital and Yongsan Hospital, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University from July, 1987 to June, 1989.
The results were follows.
1) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases of total 12,327 out-patient was 15.3%(1890).
2) Superficial fungal diseases showed high incidence in the third(25.3%) and the fourth decade(20. 8%).
3) The ratio of male to female was 2.01:1(1263:627).
4) The monthly prevalence of superficial fungal diseases was high in July(17.2%), August(13.3%) and June(12.6%).
5) The incidence of superficial fungal diseases were Tinea pedis(30.6%), Tinea cruris(20.3%), Onychomycosis(13.0%), Tinea corporis(10.7%), Tinea versicolor(10.2%), Candidiasis(8.2%), Tinea manus(4.9%), and Tinea capitis(2.3%).
6) Coexisting fungal infections were found in 267 patients(14.1%), and the case of Tinea pedis with Onychomycosis was the most common.
7) Positive rate of KOH scraping was 57.3%, and positive rate of culture on ordinary Sabouraud¢¥s dextrose agar media was 36.3%.
8) Trichophyton rubrum was the most common causative organism of superficial dermatophytes(43. 2%), and other in decreasing frequency were Candida ablicans(36.5%), Trichophyton men tagrophytes(9. 5%), Microsporum canis(9.4%), Epidermophyton floccosum(1.2%), Trichophyton ferrugineum(0.2%).
